They are science created just before the fall of Atlantis. Don't worry though this isn't talked about a lot and I thank her for it cause it could have been a deal breaker. Vampires want to live in the present as much as us. Unfortunately for Marguerite the demon that was her ex husband isn't staying dead. Even all these years later what he did to her is haunting her still. Luckily her new/old lifemate is understanding of what a jerk he was and look past that. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have a really good book cause it would be over fairly quickly.
