The Trouble with Magic by Madelyn Alt. Mystery. Very good book. This is a great beginning to a new series. The main character grew up catholic. She is stuck in a dead end job and keeps showing up late. One day when she is perfectly able to make it there on time she takes the long route. Stopping at a shop she gets stuck outside in the rain. Taking shelter in the doorway she ends up on her butt in the store. The shop keeper was interested in her and offers her a job. It's a very lucky thing too since she's fired from her job that day.
