Religions ability to make you see things from your own point of view

Ok, The other day I was talking to someone at the bookstore while I was ringing her up. So she asks me have you heard any rumors as to when the next Harry Potter book is coming out. I informed her that no I have not. She asks if I'm sure. Yes I'm very sure. I'm not horribly great at keeping a secret. I don't know. She makes some small talk about Harry Potter so I mention that the only rumor I've heard is that Harry is supposed to die in the next one. I don't think he should that would stink. She then informs me that he has to because Harry Potter is a Christ Myth. I was able to hold my tongue and not go huh??? After all don't most Christians that have any view other then huh fun fiction think it's put out by the devil or something. So I guess if you are devote enough and still wanna read about magic all you have to do is find Christ under some rock in the book and run with it. Have fun.

Birthdays

Do you celebrate your birthday when you are immortal? I mean as humans we have big days. 16 cause you get to drive 18 cause you get to vote 21 cause you get to drink. You get the point. As a vampire is like 500 important or 1000? Plus do you put candles on a blood cake or something.

Frogs and French Kisses by Sarah Mlynowski. Pages 277. Teen. This is a fun book about two teen girls, sisters. Ones a witch the other is not. See how their blunders teach them more about life and lessons that far to many people still need to learn in their 30s.

Robots?

I've been watching a lot of anime lately with one of my friends. One theme is definitely loud and clear. Sexy chick robots. I find it interesting that so many anime deals with people getting on with inanimate objects. But most of them have A.I. which I think is relatively dangerous. I mean computers thinking for themselves. I don't want my puter deciding what it has on it now let alone if it was capable of strangling me. Ick.

Hairstylist to the Undead

If I were undead and I had a hairstylist that could actually do my hair right I'd so turn her. I know people always say would you turn your honey or your parents. I could say without a doubt nope on my parents or any family. My honey well yeah he'd be coming with me. I couldn't live without him. And if I ever found a hairstylist who could actually do good things with my hair she'd be there too. Without a doubt.

Fangs for the Memories by Kathy Love

Fangs for the Memories by Kathy Love. Romance. Pages 285. Imagine a vampire who's got amnesia. He can't remember he's a vampire. He also can't remember that it's about 200 years later then the last time he was human. There is also this girl who likes him and also doesn't know he's a vampire. It makes for some funny explanations and a lot of little booboos. Check it out.

Happy Endings

In a lot of fairy tales you are expected to believe that it all worked out perfect in the end. Every show wraps up before the time is up etc... It's pretty and nice. One of the reasons I like series is because the problems don't always get fixed right away. I'm also a big fan of Grim's tales. More stories need to have endings that aren't pure happy. We have to compromise in a lot of different situations why should our characters be any different.

Resenting the Hero by Moira J. Moore

Resenting the Hero by Moira J. Moore. Pages 285. Science Fiction. This is the first book in what I hope is going to be a series. The source and shield are used to prevent natural disasters. Of course sources and shields are people. People who from a young age have been removed from their houses to serve a noble duty to protect the regulars. Only something has started. Some change to the mix. Plus the spot light isn't so pretty from the inside really. Check it out.

Different types of magic

There are many different types of magic and how they work in usually self explanatory. Like Fire magic or ice magic. Some are a little more obscure like arcane magic. Some you know you have to look out for. Demon magic and black magic. No matter what story it is Demon and black magic are always bad. You don't hear of cuddly demons with soft fur. Nope you hear abut Demons that look like snakes with sharp pointy teeth. The problems with fire and ice magic is that someone is always immune to it. It almost always seems that earth magic is the soft white magic of the world. Well I've been rambling and I'm not exactly sure how to bring this to a close so I'm just going to say have a nice day and may the world be magical for you.

werearachnids ewww

Werearachnids are possibly one of the most gross were creatures there is. Whitewolf has them and so does the new book I just reviewed. Ok I'm sure you get the basic concept. A person who turns into a large spider. In whitewolf they can actually turn into several spiders if they want. Basically leave the pinky finger at home and no matter how many of the little spiders you kill unless you track down the ones back home you can't kill it. It's one of the toughest things to beat and you'll never know for sure you've killed it. In the Davidson book they turn into one big spider. No army of little spiders that I know of yay. Still if a huge spider came my way I'd run and hide. There is no amount of raid that can fix that.

Jennifer Scales and the Messenger of Light by Mary Janice Davidson

Jennifer Scales and the Messenger of Light by Mary Janice Davidson and Anthony Alongi. Teen Fiction. Pages 326. This book is about a half weredragon and half beastslayer. Her "friends" a werespider, beastslayer, and human alternately help her and hurt her. Pretty much like all teen relationships. They need to find her half sibling before it's to late for her family and her. It's a good book and I want to see more.

Here be Dragons

Dragons have been a focus of myth for a very long time. Many different cultures have myths about them. Mostly they are very large lizards. Most of the time they are very intelligent. Sometimes they are telepathic. Sometimes they can talk. It's unusual for them to be stupid and unable to communicate. Often they horde loot and treasure. I think they many different pictures of them are very interesting. The many different books are even more interesting. Eragon comes out in movie in November. I am going to go see it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Killer Insight by Victoria Laurie

Killer Insight by Victoria Laurie - Mystery - Pages 278. This is the fourth book in the Abby Cooper series. I can't give you a lot of info on this book because if I do I'll give to much away. I can tell you it's good and to read it. There is a lot of interaction between Abby and her psychic abilities. Check it out.

Failing ones self.

Psychics have one major problem. Frequently they don't see their own demise coming. They go around day to do seeing what is going on with everyone else's problems but either neglect to look at their own or are just plain incapable of seeing it. I can see how you'd easily forget to check into your own. After all shouldn't you have one of those moments where you're warned. But it would really suck to know the future of others and not your own.

Legendary cities

I'm sure there are way more legendary cities then I know of but right now two are coming to mind. There is eldarado which is the legendary city of gold. And there is Atlanta which supposedly sunk. One thing that puzzles me about eldarado is that if you have lots of something it frequently loses value. There has to be a supply demand thing going. If you have a crap load of gold it wouldn't really be valualbe to you. So why hide it. Did the Gods tell you hide your crap or what? Ok there are so many Atlanta myths there is no way I can cover them. So I'm not even going to try. Maybe I'll give a go at some of them later. :) Sorry if I miss spelled stuff. I'm really bad at spelling.

The Trouble with Witches by Shirley Damsgaard

The Trouble with Witches by Shirley Damsgaard - Mystery - Pages 292. Ophelia has decided it's time to use her magic. It's time she embraced who she was and went with it. So when the ice man decides that he'll try using her psychic powers and she's unable to help him it really hurts her. Which is probably why she then decides to help Rick and gets way in over her head. Good thing Abby is there. This book was great. Check it out.

Brains....Brains

Zombies are interesting to me this morning. Probably cause I'm getting ready for work and feel like one. I was just thinking it would really suck to be buried alive. Most thought cases of zombies have been people who looked like they had no heart rate. But really it was just so extremely low that it couldn't be detected without machines. Sometimes this means that they aren't getting enough blood to the brain. So sometimes they are brain damaged. That and the fright of waking up underground. Ick. Just a thought in the wee hours of the morn.

Expensive

I think it would be rather expensive to be magical. I mean all the different tools you always seem to need. Think about it. Athame's, jewelry, crystals, herbs, etc... Most people don't just go back to basics and get a stick and some salt. And since most of it is classified as art it's even more money. Ouch pocket book time.

Allergies

Is it possible for a Paranormal to have allergies? I don't mean like are werewolves allergic to silver or vampires allergic to sun. I mean can a werewolf be allergic to dust? Will pollen send a vampires to the medicine cabinet? Can a witch be allergic to cats? What do they do if they are? It definitely makes for a funny picture. I just see a vampire going down to the crypt and having sneezing fits cause his housekeeper forgot to dust. We always see these creatures and sexy and suave or scary and hunter like. But you rarely see them as sickly. Just a thought.

Testing into adulthood

One of the books I read recently had a concept I really like. I'm not sure it would work for silly little mortals like us but one could only hope. The concept was that in order to be considered an adult you had to pass a test. You can take the test over and over so you have no chance to fail but you had to pass the wisdom test. Until then your parents controlled you. Not in the jedi mind trick way but in a you must still follow their rules. It was interesting.

That is until they decide to uproot the family and move them all from Beverly Hills to Salem. You see everyone in the family is a witch cept dad. And since her bro can't handle his magic it's move time. Only now she has to go from you're not allowed to use magic to magic is a must. Check it out and see if Pru can learn to live with her magic. Death of a darklord by Laurell K. Hamilton

Death of a darklord by Laurell K. Hamilton. Science Fiction. Pages 306. I was disappointed. I expected something a bit better. This D&D take off could be lost in the millions of others if it didn't have her name on it. It showed none of her usual spark. Basically a magic user who's been barely using her skills is given a lesson of life that tells her she better start or they'll kill her. Her "family" doesn't approve of magic. She's living with a group of people that have adopted each other as friends so close they are family. They end up getting her some help and all of them trot off to save the world. But everything goes horribly wrong. I'm probably going to end up reading the next one in hopes that she improves. I loved nightshirt and had hoped this would be as good.

24 hour establishments

24 hour establishments must make life so much easier on the paranormal. Now you can buy clothes, grocery shop, and so much more in the middle of the night. Before you would have either had to break into places and stolen or hired someone to shop for you. Plus on top of that there are online Web stores you can buy things from. You don't even have to leave your house. So all those paranormals who are afraid of the public don't have to face their fears. Just hide away with a computer and a internet connection. It doesn't even have to be a great internet connection.

So magic

Yeah I've really skipped over the various types of magic out there. There are a lot of different possibilities on that. You have your cleric types who are gifted by God or Goddess. Gifted by deity they go around following the rules of deity and doing deeds. Then you have your deal with the devil types. They just go about doing whatever they want. They're downside doesn't come till the end which can sometimes be soon. The devil has a lot of lawyers (jk). Then you have your genetic born with it. They have to work at it and learn a lot. Many times their own lives are threatened by untrained power. And the last one I'm covering today is the everyone can have it. If you practice hard enough everyday you to can learn magic. This one if most frequently ignored. It's just not practical. Even in our relatively normal world people just tend to be better at one thing then others. It's life.

The Illusionist

The Illusionist is a movie that was recently released to theatres. It's a great film about a magician and love. Separated from his love at a young age he travels the world learning all he can about magic and illusion. After many journeys and lots of study he opens his own show. He does fantastic tricks and master illusions. Everyone is in awe. After intriguing the crown prince of Venice his world slowly falls apart in one fantastic event after another. I don't want to give away to much so I wont continue but I will recommend that you must go see it.

After we die

Forensics on the paranormal corpse. I'm kind of curious how things are different for the paranormal body when it decomposes then the human body. Now I know a lot of this is going to depend on which myth you choose. After all in some the vampire body just turns to dust. Not much in the way of forensics for dust. Ok there is but not much that will tell you about the body. Plus what does a human forensics person think of a human outline in ash? With DNA in this day and age keeping the secret of paranormals has got to be hard. What do you do with a werewolf corpse?
Does a witch corpse hold any weird DNA? Or does it just look human? How much does claiming your religion doesn't allow you to be cut up keep them from studying your body? So many questions. Unfortunately I'm out of time for today. I'll think about this some more later. :)
